On this last Winter Solstice, I attended ENLIGHTENING OUR WAY TOGETHER, an Indigenous-led online convergence honoring the Winter Solstice.

During this December gathering, Hereditary Chief Phil Lane, Yankton Dakota, and Chickasaw First Nations shared some moving words about what we can expect for 2025.

Two key themes from his message seem particularly relevant for this January Full Moon Day: Chaos & Rebirth and the Ending of the Days of the Lone Wolf.

As I write this, I hope these words will resonate with you in some way. They are expansive and can spark many meaningful conversations in community. This is the purpose behind sharing them: to offer a space for reflection, connection, and action, as we all navigate this moment together.

The True Nature of Chaos

Even before the violence that marked the beginning of the New Year, Chief Phil Lane had already spoken about the chaos he and other Elders foresaw on the horizon. It’s not that we should expect this chaos to overwhelm us, but rather that we should look to understand what the chaos is teaching us.

There is now a distinct and palpable energy shaping the course of our civilization. It is pushing us forward in a specific direction, but the outcome depends entirely on how we engage with this energy in the present moment.

We are in the midst of a profound paradigm shift. The chaos we may perceive is the death of an old way, one that is desperately clinging to life or relevance.

So, while the tumultuous events of January 2025 may feel disheartening, we are invited to see them as signs of rebirth.

The personal reflection for each of us is: How does this chaos inform our reality and sacred actions?

For some, the recognition that something is dying away and clinging to power may be enough to stop giving it attention, thus denying it more life. For others, especially those carrying the activist fire, it may feel like a rallying cry.

As this was shared with me, I am not sure if there is a right or wrong reaction on a collective level. However, on the individual front, some are choosing not to give life to the toxic dynamics and conversations that dominate social media. Instead, they are focusing on nurturing community, fostering conversations around unity, and feeding the collective spiritual well-being.

End of the Days of the Lone Wolf

Below are the full words of the 11th Hour Hopi Prophecy, which speaks about the Lone Wolf. Though these words were shared in 2000, they describe the decades we are currently living through, each one urging us toward the necessity of bringing this wisdom into sacred action.

THE 11th HOUR

“You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour. And there are things to be considered…

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?

Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for your leader.

Then he clasped his hands together, smiled, and said, ‘This could be a good time! There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.

And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word ‘struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
~ Hopi Elders’ Prophecy, June 8, 2000

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the first Full Moon of January is known as the Wolf Moon. There are indeed many synchronicities that are difficult to ignore, and in 2025, these will be felt and visible to everyone—not just to a select few, as has often been the case in the past.
